Beta Releases

Important Information - Please Read

Beta software is pre-release software that is not representative of what the final version will be like. Not all features will necessarily work as expected, and there could be a loss of data. It is recommended that you back up your data prior to using the application. If you are uncomfortable with using software in this situation, please do not use the beta versions and instead wait for the final releases.

If you do use these pre-release versions of our software, we want to hear from you about your experiences. All feedback should be directed to:

Please do not contact the standard support address with issues you are experiencing with the beta software. This will help us keep issues with the pre-release software separate.


Bug Reports

If you do find problems with the software, please let us know by emailing us at the beta email address listed above. When reporting a bug, there are several pieces of information that are often very useful in reproducing and fixing the bugs on our end:

  1. A set of steps that caused the problem you found. If you can successfully follow these steps and cause the problem again, this will greatly increase the chance that we can see and fix the problem.
  2. What happened? If the application crashed, please look in the crash logs folder, located at:
    ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/
    for the log file of the application. Note that the You Control family of products each have two separate applications, the configuration application and the background engine, so look for both files. (For example, You Control might have either "You Control.crash.log" and "YouControlEngine.crash.log", depending on which one crashed).
    Note that on Leopard there is a separate crash log file for each incident; please send all of the files you find.
    If the problem is related to the user interface, it may be helpful to send in a screenshot of what you are seeing as well.
  3. What did you expect to happen? Sometimes the problem is that we have designed something to behave differently than you expected. By telling us what you were expecting and why, it can help us realize why something should work differently than we intended.

Obviously not every report is going to have all of the information listed above, but generally, the more information you can provide about a problem, the more likely it will be that we can get the problem addressed.

Below are the products that are currently released as betas. Release notes are available in the beta ReadMe included on the disk image.

You Control: Desktops 1.3.1 b1 - Dec 10, 2008

You Control: Desktops 1.3.1 is now available for beta testing. This addresses a handful of issues that have cropped up in the 1.3 release.

You Control 1.7.2 - Mar 10, 2009

You Control 1.7.2 is no longer in beta. Please visit the product page to download the released version.
