New You Control: Fonts 1.1 WYSIWYG Font Menu Supports Extensis Suitcase X1

Significant update to You Control: Fonts lets designers, prepress and printing professionals
preview and activate Extensis Suitcase font sets from a custom Mac OS X menu

PORTLAND, ORE. — Sept. 21, 2004 - – You Software today announced a significant update to You Control: Fonts, a software utility that lets you create WYSIWYG font menus that work with applications running on Mac OS X. You Control: Fonts 1.1 now provides fully integrated support for Extensis Suitcase X1, the leading professional font management solution for Mac OS X.

The newest version of You Control: Fonts streamlines professional font management by providing designers and prepress professionals with fast access to previewing fonts in their typeface and activating Extensis Suitcase fonts sets. In addition to showing fonts in their typeface and grouping them into font families, the You Control: Fonts menu can now display Extensis Suitcase font sets and show which fonts are activated. Suitcase font sets and individual fonts can be activated from the You Control: Fonts menu.

“Working with thousands of fonts is a double edged sword. Effectively managing fonts can be a strategic advantage for creatives who understand the subtle art of using type to enhance the meaning of text. The challenge is that finding just the right font for the job out of thousands of fonts available can be a real headache,” said Mike Wong, You Software, Director of Product Marketing for Macintosh Products. “Bringing the versatility of the You Control: Fonts WYSIWYG menu together with the professional font management power of Extensis Suitcase is a winning combination for coherent font management in OS X.”

Built upon the award-winning You Control custom menu utility, You Control: Fonts allows you to create an efficient, compact custom font menu that makes it easier to find your fonts. The updated You Control: Fonts also adds key scrolling to quickly jump to specific fonts in the menu just by starting to type the name of the font. Users can now assign custom hotkeys to their favorite or frequently used fonts to instantly apply a typeface to selected text without using a font menu.

“By taking advantage of the AppleScript capability in Suitcase we were able to give users instant access to the professional font management power of Suitcase in a convenient custom menu,” said You Software Chief Technology Officer Tim Brown. Tim was the lead engineer on the WYSIWYG menus in the original Now Utilities, an award-winning system enhancement utility collection introduced by Now Software in 1991.
