The latest version of You Control: Fonts is 1.3.1, and was released on July 21, 2008.
You can view the latest release notes here.
Note: If you would like to run You Control: Fonts on 10.3.9, you can install version 1.1.1.
You Control: Fonts lets you create a WYSIWYG font menu that displays the fonts in their own typeface and groups them into their proper font families.
If you have downloaded You Control: Fonts, simply mount the disk image by double-clicking on the .dmg file. Next, drag You Control: Fonts to the location of your choice (we recommend your Applications folder) along with the accompanying documentation.
To uninstall You Control: Fonts, first quit the application if you have not already done so. You can quit the application by ctrl-clicking on the You Control: Fonts menu and selecting "Stop Engine." Then you should drag the application (generally stored in your Applications folder) to the trash.
You can assign Hot Keys to any You Control: Fonts menu item. You can also assign a Hot Key to the menu itself, so that it pops up at your mouse location.
To create a hot key combination for a You Control: Fonts feature, simply place your mouse cursor over the menu selection and type the desired key combination.
To remove a hot key combination from a feature, place your cursor over the menu selection and press the delete key.
In the Menus area of the You Control: Fonts configuration window, click the "Set Hot Key..." button. Enter the desired key command when prompted by the pop-up window, then click "OK."
In the Menus area of the You Control: Fonts configuration window, click the "Set Hot Key..." button. In the resulting pop-up window, choose "Set to None" and then click "OK."
You Control: Fonts menu is active globally regardless of what application you may be currently working in. This means any Hot Keys you have established in You Control: Fonts will override those of other applications. Choose your keyboard shortcuts for your Hot Keys carefully. For a complete list of Apple specific command keys please see Apple's Mac OS X: Keyboard Shortcuts page.
No. You Control: Fonts only creates a menu that shows you what your fonts look like and allows you to apply a specific font style to selected text. If you are looking for a font management application that will activate and deactivate fonts, you'll need an application like Suitcase from Extensis.
Depending on the application you are using at the time, the Current Font menu item in You Control: Fonts will display the font that is currently set in the application. For example, if the current font you are using in Microsoft Word is Myriad Pro, the Current Font menu will display Myriad Pro. Not all applications provide this information so depending on the application you are using, this particular menu item may or may not contain data.
No. You Control: Fonts is font menu utility, not a font manager. If you need the ability to turn fonts on and off, a font management application like Suitcase or Font Reserve from Extensis is the type of utility you need.
You Control: Fonts will work with all of these font managers and others like Font Book. You Control: Fonts will build a font menu based on the fonts that are installed or activated in the operating system. This means that if you use a third-party application like Suitcase or Font Reserve to activate your fonts, You Control: Fonts will update its font menu when those fonts are activated.
Sometimes the font family information is misinterpreted by Mac OS X and will result in you not getting some of the fonts to be grouped as you would expect. If this is happening to you, please contact us and we will investigate the matter.
If a You Control: Fonts feature is set to display its information "Inline," the information will be displayed under the main menu item. If a feature is set to not display information "Inline," the information will be "nested" within a sub-menu.
